Cultural Season Kicks Off in CincinnatiUSA

08.10.2009 – Cincinnati USA is home to a number of cultural gems from its art museums, theatres, dance troupes and symphonies and the fall season features a number of great performances and exhibitions.
Museums Where to start? There are a plethora of museums for any type of art enthusiast to enjoy. The Cincinnati Art Museum offers free admission and features more than 60,000 works spanning 6,000 years in addition to national and international traveling exhibitions. The Contemporary Arts Center’s allure begins before you even set foot in the building that has gained internationally acclaim for its architecture with a recently opened building designed by Zaha Hadid. The Taft Museum of Art is known as one of the finest small museums in America. The former home also happens to be a National Historic Landmark. The Carnegie Visual & Performing Arts Center is one the of the most prominent arts institutions in near-by Northern Kentucky. It boasts of five art galleries, a turn-of the-century theater and a brand new education center.
Theatre The two-time Tony Award winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is celebrating its 50th anniversary and gearing up for another jammed-packed season that opens on September 5 with suspense thriller Sleuth. The Broadway Across America series at the Aronoff Center for the Arts brings the best of New York to the Queen City. This year’s line-up kicks off with The Color Purple on September 29. You can also find some more intimate performances at the Ensemble Theatre or by Know Theatre, known for presenting affordable and though-provoking entertainment in a variety of locations throughout the Cincinnati USA area. The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati kicks off their season line-up this fall with Disney’s Beauty & the Beast, Jr.
Music
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra led by internationally famed Conductor Paavo Järvi and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra led by maestro Erich Kunzel both play in the beautiful Music Hall located in the Over-the-Rhine district in downtown, Cincinnati. The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra offers unique outdoor concerts at Devou Park in Covington, as well as unique and thematic performances and collaborations inside. The Cincinnati MidPoint Music Festival rocks the area each fall with some 230 U.S. and international bands perform in one weekend.
Dance Cincinnati Ballet is one of the premiere dance companies in the .country. Fresh off a 45-year anniversary, the 2009-2010 Season opens with New Works, a hometown favorite featuring local choreographers and music and performed right in the Ballet’s home studio. The Contemporary Dance Theater is the only arts organization in the Cincinnati USA area dedicated to contemporary dance, also featuring a guest artist series each season. Performances are held at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.
