Chicken wings may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the food scene in Over-the-Rhine, but next time you're looking for a fun food adventure, stop in at one or two of these OTR restaurants and order the wings. Better yet, make it a Wing Walk and taste the flavorful varieties at all six of these spots around the neighborhood.
Kaze OTR puts their own Asian twist on all the fare they serve which includes ramen, sushi, salads, sliders, and you guessed it, chicken wings. The tasty and tangy wings are house-smoked and covered in a spicy Korean buffalo sauce. Wingy Wisdom: The wings usually appear on the happy hour menu which is offered six days a week (closed on Mondays) in the bar, and weather-permitting, in their large beer garden.
The Pony OTR
The Pony OTR is all about great bar food and that includes wings. They serve up single and double orders of wings with mild, medium, hot, and BBQ options. Wingy Wisdom: Order the BBQ wings for a satisfying smoky taste.
Pontiac Bourbon & BBQ
Pontiac Bourbon & BBQ seems to excel in everything it offers and the wings are no exception. These wings are smoked and covered in a housemade sauce which tastes like a blend of barbeque and buffalo. The result is a sweet, spicy, smokey delectable experience bite by delicious bite. Wingy Wisdom: This place draws a crowd, so if you can't get a seat order the wings to go and enjoy them at a nearby bar or Washington Park.
The menu at Quan Hapa, an Asian gastropub, states that it's "exotic. Enjoy at your own risk." This is precisely why their Hapa Wings are worth a shot - they are unlike any other in the neighborhood. These wings are fried and lightly coated with nuoc mam (fish sauce) & honey. Pair them with an okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) to experience one of the most unique meals in town! Wingy Wisdom: dine in on Tuesday evenings for half-priced wings flavored with the specialty wing sauce of the week or honey sriracha sauce.
The wings at Revolution Rotisserie are just what you'd expect from rotisserie chicken - extremely tender, juicy and flavorful. The fall-off-the-bone goodness is complemented by three sauce varieties: BBQ, lightning, or buffalo. Wingy Wisdom: All the chicken served at Revolution is raised free-range by Amish farmers on an antibiotic-free, all-natural vegetarian diet.
Taft's Ale House
Taft's Ale House - These flavorful, wings are smoked in a hickory wood chip smoker, drizzled with a tangy - not spicy - mayonaisse-based sauce and served with green apple slices. Pairs perfectly with any of their house-brewed ales or lagers. Wingy Wisdom: Be sure to leave time to enjoy the structure and decor at Taft's. Originally constructed as a church in 1850, the venue was meticulously restored as an homage to one of Cincinnati's most well known residents - the 27th President of the United States, William Howard Taft.
