It’s official: Fiona is a star. This Cincinnati Zoo hippo has her own Facebook show and has even been known to photobomb engagements. This girl has sass with a side of adorable. With all of the attention she’s receiving online, it’s not surprising that everyone is coming to Cincinnati to see this internet star. And with her antics, she definitely doesn’t disappoint.
If you are ready to plan your own trip to see Fiona, here’s your perfect roadtrip itinerary to have a hippo-rific time:
Start your day at Busken Bakery. You are going to need to keep your energy up for exploring the zoo, and this bakery has lots of tasty donuts and sweets to do just that. It also has ties to Fiona, as it raised money for the zoo with #TeamFiona cookies. You might be able to get one in the shop, but if not, you can always order the cookies online.
Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden
Since Fiona tends to make her appearance before 3 pm, you will want to get to the zoo early. Hippo Cove is a popular destination, so be sure to leave some extra time to spend here. Keep in mind that temperatures must be 50 degrees or warmer with sunny skies for the hippos to be out. But know that this is not the only stop you need to make here. You can find babies galore throughout the venue – including Kendi the Black Rhino – and there are plenty of chances to get up close and personal during the many animal encounters that happen each day.
Did all of that animal fun make you hungry? Then your next stop should be Findlay Market. Usually the hardest part of a roadtrip is getting everyone to agree on one place to eat. Findlay Market makes it easy with several dining options. You can get a taste of many different cuisines, and it’s all fantastic. So instead of arguing over where to eat, go to Findlay Market where everyone can eat happy.
With a belly full of great food, your next stop is Rookwood Pottery. Here you can find an adorable Fiona ornament to put on your tree. It’s the perfect memento to remember your trip and also provides an opportunity to discover the amazing beauty of one of the most prestigious names in ceramics.
While you’re in the neighborhood, you have to explore more of historic Over-the-Rhine. It’s one of the top neighborhoods in the country for a reason. Wander around for great shopping, play in Washington Park, take a tour of the newly renovated Cincinnati Music Hall, or simply check out all of the amazing local murals. There is fun for everyone in this neighborhood.
All great trips must come to an end and we can’t think of a better place to toast your Fiona roadtrip than Listermann Brewing. You’re likely to find Team Fiona, a New England IPA, on tap. You’ll also find a full menu to complement your brew.
And don’t forget to book a hotel as well, because after a full day of Fiona fun, you are definitely going to be tired.
